Privè Bakery Cafè

10 September 2010

Aah, brunch. It's like having breakfast in bed. In this case, the bed was in Privè.

And so my fellow adventurer and I ventured into the west for the well-blogged Privè bakery and cafe. It began with mismatched directions as Miss GPS tried to direct us into the sea. After asking a friendly security guard from a nearby condominium (whom we suspect have directed many lost souls with the sense of familiarity in his tone), we finally turned into the right lane to have our brunch at...12:30pm.

Privè Ultimate Breakfast $17++

In case I mislead you, my friend omitted the roasted tomatoes and baked beans in exchange for extra mushrooms. The portion was visually filling and true enough, my lady friend couldn't finish her dish. For someone who don't like scrambled eggs, she was surprised that she actually liked Privè's creamy version and ate more than half of it.

Eggs Florentine $13.50++

It was a long wait, finally it came. Two poached eggs coated with scorched Hollandaise sauce on wilted baby spinach and English muffin. Imagine the golden goodness oozing out under the pressure of the knife. Mop it up with a bite of muffin and chew into the savoury flavour. Then turn and look at the parked yachts while a gentle sea breeze runs through your hair.

Aah, life is good.

Oh, yes, the Eggs Florentine was splendid. The baked/blow-torched Hollandaise sauce added a nice contrast to the gooey yolk. The rocket leaf salad is not a common favourite, though I enjoyed it the same.

I couldn't help it and left the cafe with this:

Service was polite and attentive, although food took quite a while to come, probably due to the crowd.

This calls for a quick recap of my trip to Rider's Cafe last year.

That was a year ago and it's memorable for a reason. The Eggs Benedict was $12 then, not sure about now. Comparisons? I prefer what Privè did to their eggs (scrambled and poached) but I like Riders' variety on the plate. Privè's English Muffin had more butter because it was tastier and greasier. I think it's about time to revisit Riders Cafè.
